AMERICAN HISTORY LESSON FOR TODAY’S AMERICAN VOTERS AND PROSPECTIVE VOTERS

PRAYER NIEMOELLER
“First they came … is a famous statement and provocative poem written by Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the cowardice of German intellectuals following the Nazis’ rise to power and subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came_…

First They Came

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

“Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

“Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

“Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)

“When Pastor Niemöller was put in a concentration camp we wrote the year 1937; when the concentration camp was opened we wrote the year 1933, and the people who were put in the camps then were Communists. Who cared about them? We knew it, it was printed in the newspapers.
“Who raised their voice, maybe the Confessing Church? We thought: Communists, those opponents of religion, those enemies of Christians – “should I be my brother’s keeper?”
“Then they got rid of the sick, the so-called incurables. – I remember a conversation I had with a person who claimed to be a Christian. He said: Perhaps it’s right, these incurably sick people just cost the state money, and they are just a burden to themselves and to others. Isn’t it best for all concerned if they are taken out of the middle [of society]? — Only then did the church as such take note. Then we started talking, until our voices were again silenced in public. Can we say, we aren’t guilty/responsible? The persecution of the Jews, the way we treated the occupied countries, or the things in Greece, in Poland, in Czechoslovakia or in Holland, that were written in the newspapers
“I believe, we Confessing-Church-Christians have every reason to say: mea culpa, mea culpa! We can talk ourselves out of it with the excuse that it would have cost me my head if I had spoken out.”

And in 1954, in the United States of America there was enacted: “Communist Control Act of 1954”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_Control_Act_of_1954
“The Communist Control Act (68 Stat. 775, 50 U.S.C. 841-844) is a piece of United States federal legislation, signed into law by President Dwight Eisenhower on 24 August 1954, which outlaws the Communist Party of the United States and criminalizes membership in, or support for the Party or “Communist-action” organizations and defines evidence to be considered by a jury in determining participation in the activities, planning, actions, objectives, or purposes of such organizations.”

AMERICAN NAZI PARADE IN NEW YORK CITY IN 1930’S
…………………………………………………..
PERSONAL NOTE BY RICHARD BLANKENBURG Ed.D.

In 1956, two years after passage of the above, Communist Control Act of 1954, I moved to San Diego California because I had a contract to teach in public schools in San Diego. Before I could get a license to teach in California Schools, I was required sign a legal affidavit that I was not, nor ever had been, a member of the Communist Party nor any of the affiliates of the Communist Party

Personally, I had no problem signing the legal affidavit that I was not a Communist, however I had considerable concern that I could be a teacher in California and be a member of the American Nazi Party, the Ku Klux Klan, the John Birch Society including their “front group” the Tea Party, and any other fascist political groups that exists today, in America.

Further, as a licensed teacher of “American Government” and “American History”, I was “required” by the State of California to teach my students the great advantages of living in the “democracy” of the United States of America!

And, most certainly I was well aware of the threat of fascism as well as Communism, to our American democratic Republic!

There is no doubt in my own mind that I was and am, an “excellent teacher” by law! After you have read these 2 pages, I hope you have learned something of value that is important, in the current day and age in America; this was my objective!

Today, I am a retired California school teacher. God bless the American democratic Republic!
