SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT TELL ME WHO I CAN NOT MARRY; THE STATE IS NOT MY MOTHER: THE NORTH CAROLINA CONSTITUTIONAL BAN ON GAY MARRIAGE

North Carolina just changed their Constitution to ban gay marriage; North Carolina previously had by law banned interracial marriage that was declared unconstitutional.  Though gay marriage is the controversy, the issue itself is not about marriage; the real issue is about the Law and the Constitutional equal protection under the law and the separation of church and state.

Fox News’ O’Reilly and the radical and extremist Republicans are now defending the North Carolina constitutional amendment.

Bill O’Rielly, “Most of the media will not even consider the traditional point of view on marriage”; sorry Bill, the gay marriage issue is not about tradition or the horoscope, the issue is about the Law.

When Bill says tradition, he mans religion. The real issue is the First Amendment which ‘separates church and State’ and the 14th Amendment which requires ‘equal protection’ of individual Americans under the law.

Every Ameican has a right to a religious marriage ceremony with rites of the church of his choice; but by law, ‘legal marriage’ is not a holy rite but a legal contract with many legal implications.

Strange that O’Reilly and the church are not more concerned about divorce, where half or American marriages end up despite gender, race, religious belief, or who put the dent in the fender of the family car.

North Carolina now has a ban on Gay marriage just like the ban they had on interracial marriage before; but then, no one cared about the ‘traditional marriage’ when interracial marriage was banned, either.

O’Rielly speaks with a radical and extremist Republican mind set; Democrats on the other hand appear to believe that if a cowboy wants to marry his horse, it’s OK with them.  So with all the unemployment and depression in the land, why is gay marriage suddenly the big issue in choosing a President in 2012?
