When I was teaching high school history and government, 40 years ago, one of the most important things I tried to teach my students, was how to decide what part of the media was reliable and true and what part of the media was misleading and partisan.  This is not an easy task and there are no easy answers.  Of course, most people believe what they want to believe and choose media that they know from experience will tell them what they want to hear.

It is also difficult to convince people that they should listen carefully to the enemy so they can be more assured that their own opinion is valid.

It is essential to remember that until news is considered in retrospect, it can only be considered opinion.  Only after you have lived a few years searching for truth, do you understand that when news first breaks, it is questionable until it becomes fact and proven by time; of course, some people never accept the fact that breaking news is first, fiction.  This has been proven by polls who indicate masses of people still believe breaking news, years after it was subsequently proven to be untrue; untrue news is most often proven by time to be false.

This biggest problem in learning which sources of news are reliable, is that it is necessary to do a lot of reading daily that a normal working class person (a majority of the public) do not really have time to do it spite of technology and today’s available internet resources.

Quite by accident I have discovered a sort of godsend, a website that is admittedly partisan but of great value to any partisan or independent reader.

A friend of mine edits and compiles a collection of political articles from the web that he considers valuable and of interest to the members of the Democratic Party; consequently, these items are often items about leaders of the opposition Republican Party.  He then publishes his findings on his own website for member of the Democratic Party; the site is Direct eZine for Democrats, at:  To receive this source by email periodically, you can get a FREE subscription by: “To subscribe to this free eZine email with ‘subscribe’ as the subject.”

The great thing about Direct is that it contains direct quotes and THE SOURCE.

As indicated previously, this is a partisan Democratic Party news source; Republican readers should read it and consider it, “knowing the enemy” and Independents should consider it a partisan source, which it is.

As a teacher, I recommend everyone read it for themselves and make their own decisions.

Knowing time is short for people to read on their own, with permission, I am including a few random picked samples of Direct here, all direct quotes:

ON THE RECORD: “If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age. There is no one else to go after other than the United States and that has been the case now for almost two hundred years, once America’s preeminence was sown by our great Founding Fathers.” — Santorum suggestion that Satan is systematically destroying America 2.16.12

The DAILY GRILL: The Obama administration treated Abdulmutallab “as if he had robbed a convenience store” and that CNN’s Larry King “has interrogated people longer and better” than the FBI. — Sen. Mitch McConnell in 2010; VERSUS: A federal judge sentenced so-called underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to four life terms in prison plus 60 years for his attempt to blow up an airliner bound for Detroit more than two years ago.. — Wall Street Journal 2.17.12.

LATE NIGHT JOKES FOR DEMS: “A group of Democratic fundraisers is offering a dinner with the president for $35,000. Unfortunately, the only person in America who can afford it is Mitt Romney.” –Conan O’Brian.  End of quotes

So, readers of Direct are assured from the start that the blog is partisan Democratic.  With that in mind they can make up their own minds.  As for the regular media, newspapers and TV, readers can be sure that they are also partisan to Corporate America and censored accordingly.

In the year 2000, I moved to Switzerland where I live for 5 years.  What I discovered then while looking at America from the outside looking in, was that news in all American media was entirely different from foreign media; some TV news videos shown in Europe were not ever shown on American TV.

It was then that I discovered that American media was in business to make profits and not to enlighten the public; I also discovered that American media made profits from advertising and NOT from selling newspapers or TV programs.

News reported in America, not surprisingly, was news Corporate Advertisers wanted Americans to see, hear, or read; American news media is absolutely censored.  To quote one renown reporter who acknowledged that he did not recognize the news when he read it in the newspaper, “I report the news but the editor edits it.”

Today, Americans can get news on the internet and know that it is not censored by Corporate America NOR ANYONE ELSE, and they can be sure that anything read, seen, or heard on the internet is DEFINITELY BIASED BY THE SOURCE; that is an internet truism.

The internet is what it is and can be good or bad; however anyone using the Internet MUST realize, EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET IS BIASED, INCLUDING THIS PRESUMED UNBIASED BLOG POST  (forgive me).

Needless to say that being a teacher, this post was written as a lesson about having caution about what news you get from the media; there are no absolute guarantees that you actually know what is going on in the world.

Feel free to subject this post to the divine test.
